Paul reminds the Corinthians that they represent something bigger than themselves, and that their lives are to reflect a glory that is bigger than their own. Yet when defrauded, they sued. When wronged, they went to court. When mistreated, they sought litigation. This just affirmed to the world around them that the person and work of Jesus Christ had no impact on their daily lives. How do we tend to respond to similar situations? When wronged, we want to be vindicated, and in the process of seeking justice, many of us turn to the court system to provide us with redemption. All the while, the people around us look at our faith and realize that we can't even get along with one another. Maybe it would be better to be wronged or mistreated because the reputation of Jesus Christ has a value that surpasses our own possessions. And maybe we can find a way to work things out within the family of God rather than risk the public shaming of Christ.
