Jesus Christ begins by giving the church of Ephesus wonderful commendations. He knew their deeds, their toil and their perseverance, and knew they were busy, moving and active, not dead and stagnant. But He also had a rebuke for them, because their passion for Christ was gone, leaving only religious expression with no heart. Over time, they had forgotten where they came from, eventually losing their first love, and He calls them to repent.
