Now that we’ve studied some of the Kings of Israel and Judah, we are going to look into some of the patterns we see with both the good and the bad kings because we can learn some lessons from their lives. One of the first patterns we see in the lives of many of these kings is the lack of communion with God. When they submitted to God and walked with Him, great things happened. When they began to drift from Him and allow themselves to be driven by their flesh, there was chaos. It’s easy to look at them and wonder what their problem was. Why couldn’t they just walk with God? Why would they allow themselves to do such stupid things? Yet we are guilty of the same thing. We have a distinct advantage in that we have Jesus, who has dealt with our sin and invited us into communion with Him. How much more should we be in pursuit of Jesus?
