I hear, “Every day should be Valentine’s Day.” I think if you treat it like any other day, it will be just like any other day. So do something fun. I hear a lot of guys say, “Well, she’s planning Valentine’s Day.” Which is fine. But if she’s planned V-Day since Bill Clinton was in office, then it’s probably your turn.
Show her how special she is. You want intimate, you want romantic, and you need to initiate those times.
- Invest in Romance
Don’t be afraid to drop a little coin on it. Get out of town. Get a baby sitter. Tell her you want to go out of town, tell her you’ve got the reservations, and don’t tell her where you’re going. Just tell her what kind of weather it might be and pack appropriately. And then go have an adventure.
- Go for a Walk and Hold Hands
Remember what it was like before those kids were grabbing at you all the time. Remember why you picked that woman in the first place. Relax and enjoy your time together. Most women connect face to face; men shoulder to shoulder. Fellas, get uncomfortable.
- Unplug
Put a warm beverage in your hand and look at her face, not your phone, her face. And talk about how you feel and make the kids off limits. Talk about why you care about her and what she means to you. Nobody else will care about your marriage as much as you should.
Thankfully, we have a once-a-year opportunity to invest in a special way into our relationships. Take advantage of it.
