We are here!! After a long and thankfully uneventful trip we touched down in Chiang Mai, Thailand at about 11:00 PM on December 30th. The plan was to leave for the village on the 31st and spend New Year's Eve in the village . . . but as mission trips go, flexibility is key and we had to wait an extra day for several of our bags that did not make the quick transition in Seoul, Korea. Only one flight a day from Korea, so we would need to wait until 11 PM the 31st for our bags. The bags made it and we were able to ring in the New Year Chiang Mai style!
After a quick 6 hours of sleep, we got up and left for the village. Breakfast and lunch were eaten on the road and at about 6:30 we arrived in the village, settled in and met for dinner and a quick meeting. Then off to bed in our huts.
As I write, I am looking out over the village and listening to the school lessons being taught. Work has begun and team members are working on a water catching system, others are bending and cutting rebar, building a fence, and beginning work on a dorm to house students from villages that are further out. We will begin our medical clinic this afternoon after we sort and stock our clinic area.
Spirits and energy are high and we are grateful for our safe travels. Please continue to pray for the team: that we would show the villagers Christ-like love as we work and interact with them and that we would stay healthy.
We will post again in a couple of days!
