Restless nights in Thailand result in the best days. All of your strength has to come from the Lord. Today (Saturday) was a fantastic day. It was Kids Day! Although hard work has produced some of the best conversations, there is nothing like tickling and chasing little kids around the Ma Oh Jo School grounds while other team members are participating in water balloon relays and other fun games.
I wish those restless nights were merely stories from others, but I am for sure getting no more than a few hours of sleep each night. I suppose it is par for the course when we are lying on paper-thin mats with blow-up pillows. Throw in the 4am wake-up calls from the roosters or the cows that decide to put on a bell choir concert, and you’ve got yourself a night of tossing and turning, hoping the sun comes up as soon as possible.
I will say the weather predictions that most make for this time of year (sunny and very very warm) were quite wrong, and although our solar shower bags haven’t been getting very warm, it has been fantastic for our work days. Cool and cloudy days are THE BEST.
These are some of the work projects we have been working on:
- Incinerator - building a brick incinerator to burn trash to take place of throwing it on the ground as much as possible
- Fence - replacing the old wooden/barbed wire fence with new concrete fence posts and new barbed wire
- Composting - making compost for coffee seedlings and stuffing it in small bags so villagers can plant their own coffee plants and sell them back to Lanna
- Clinic - a few health professionals (Darlene, Ashley and Erik) helping out in the clinic
- Pineapple Fields - clearing weeds out of fields to get ready to plant pineapple
Overall, I can confidently say we are all having a great time, and the stories each of us have of God moving have been a blast to share and hear. My prayer for the rest of our time here is that we would continue to stay healthy, work hard, invest in relationships, and show and represent Jesus to everyone who knows Him as well as those who don’t. Will you join me in that prayer?
