We left Chiang Mai around 8:30 a.m. this morning, heading up into the unknown. Everyone was excited to get to the heart of the trip, the real reason we all made this journey half way around the world. In three heavily loaded pickup trucks, we made the trek up into the hills of Northern Thailand.
It was a day full of beautiful country and several stops for some Thai trends: amazing cashew chicken and a wonderful pick-me-up of iced chai tea with a shot of espresso, just to make it through the final push into the village. The roads got more and more remote, finally ending with an all out 4x4 off-road experience to drop down into the village.
It’s so hard to explain the emotions I felt—wonder at this simple way of life, awe at God’s beautiful creation, and a little fear… fear of the unknown. The villagers were so welcoming and gracious, and I know God is with us here.
