Today was our first day on our job sites. We're still getting into the groove of things. It's challenging being in a different country and speaking minimal Spanish, but I think our team managed to get really excited to be here for the next two weeks.
I was in Social Services today and I had no idea what to expect. We started the morning teaching older women in the community aerobics and Zumba. It was a little weird, if I am going to be honest, but there was something about the dancing and exercise that helped us connect with with these women in spite of the language barrier.
After some hard sweating, we dropped our stuff at the site and went on a much needed hike with the children. On our way up, this little girl named Ally grabbed my hand and considered me to be her new friend. Without even knowing me, this little girl accepted me and showed me such grace. Once we reached the top, we had time to sit for a while. Honestly, I was ready to go after taking a picture. In that moment I realized that I live my life never making time for what is important. I rush around so often that I miss out on the most beautiful things. Here i was looking down at San Jose, Costa Rica and I was focused on going back? It was a good reality check.
After coming back and playing with the kids I started to develop a relationship with them, and I saw that love truly does know no language. That is really all for today. Continue to pray for our team and our journey through this week. Pura Vida!
